I then drilled four 1/4" holes in the bosses so that they could be plug welded to the inner fender. There is an area in the corner that is pretty obvious. Ensure that the boss is going to mount against a flat section of the inner fender. I mounted the Heritage mounting bosses (222-158) to the inner fenders by first pulling the carpeting away carefully, then drilling a 1" hole with a hole saw in a location that allowed the retractor to have adequate clearance. Here are photographs of the new Moss 222-216 seat belts installed in my 1970 MGB. Sorry to take so long getting these to you. In my GT I went one step further and used modern seats that have seatbelt guides built in that hold the belt well above the shoulder.ġ971 MGBGT, overdrive, Limey relay and fuse kits, Rick Ingram struts all round, Jeff Schlemmer points distributor, alternator, Basil Adams camshaft and side cover, Eurospec tail lights, 1976 dashboard and console, 1999 Chevy cavalier seats, GM heater motor and fan with Ford 3 speed controller, Ford Merkur/Sierra parcel shelf, cruise control.ġ979 B, Olds 215 engine with 1996 Land Rover heads, Carter AFB, Camaro T5 gearbox, Limey relay kit, Rick Ingram struts all round, mgccars alternator, Jeff Schlemmer distributor with Petronix, Eurospec tail lights, cruise control, 99 Pontiac Sunfire seats.ġ969 MGBGT, Miata seats, late centre console, apart from that it's stock! You're right, for safety you need to mount the belt as close as possible to the top of the wheel arch as possible, just like the GT has the belts mounted. So I'm asking if it makes more sense to try and mount it up higher since I don't have that factory mounting point (and neither do the early MGB folks here). What I was asking is that from all my other research - independent of the factory mounting point location - suggets that the belt is supposed to be level with your shoulder or it will transmit forced down through your spine in an accident. There are other pressing projects to complete before I tackle this, so I hope you post the results of your efforts so I don't have to re-invent the wheel when I go to do mine. Paul, I've been thinking about doing the very same thing with my 69B, but just haven't got around to it yet. Do most folks get belts with the door post fitting for the shoulder strap? Is this attached to the top frame bracket? Anyway.Just kinda thinking out loud.but more pics are always appreciated! I guess I'm just going to have to buy a set a belts and see if this will work.

I'm assuming your "C" has the same tonneau panel mounts as by "B". If you have a fold down top this wouldn't work but I have a break away top frame. It would require a spacer between the unit and the panel in order to clear the edge lip but could use the existing bolt. My latest idea is to mount the unit "upside down" underneath the tonneau panel. I don't have access to a welder and I keep thinking about some way to mount the unit using the existing bolt on the tonneau panel. I've been pondering retractable belt installation in my '69 B for a couple of years now.
